"Mike, The Invisible Man"

US$ 2.400,00

Technique: Oil & Wax on Canvas

Size: 65 x 50 inches

Year: 2022

The story of this painting is based on Mike D, one of the members of the band Beastie Boys from the 80s and 90s. He was always considered the most underrated member of the band due to his simple and slow flow when he rapped. But without a doubt, he always had great punchlines and a very distinctive way of writing. His persona is also a mystery, calling himself in one of his songs “Mike D the Mystery Man.” This idea somehow led me to the H. G. Wells classic novel, “The Invisible Man.” I don’t know how, but I suddenly thought that these guys were connected and could get along very well. The power of being invisible makes you more conscious, allowing you to read the world better around you, being a spectator and creator at the same time.

I also made a little homage to Friedrich Nietzsche, an author and philosopher who wrote great books and ideas about human consciousness and its power of being omnipresent with an elevated state of intellect. “Mike D, the Invisible” is two persons in one and the same. At the end of the day, he was the smartest Beastie Boy, leaving the flashes and limelights to his other bandmates.
